Tecno L9 Plus Review: Display and Design
When it comes to design and display we can all but say that the Tecno L9 plus is just about average.
Due to the 6-inch screen, one would expect the L9 plus to have a large screen resolution of about 1080p, unfortunately, it seems the phone designers were trying to save cost and gave it a 720p resolution instead. With that, you should expect an average display which might not be much of a problem depending on the kind of phone user you are.
However, the L9 plus makes up for its average display with its gorgeous design. The smartphone which is 162mm tall and 81.8mm wide comes with a full metal unibody design.
The L9 plus has its SIM tray and MicroSD card tray mounted on the sides which are due to the fact that is 5000mAh battery is irremovable.
On its rear is the 13MP camera placed at the center and right underneath it is the fingerprint scanner.
On the front, you have the 5MP camera as you would expect. The 3.5mm audio port is at the top while it has a USB port at the bottom.
Just like most new technology phones, the L9 plus doesn’t use on-screen buttons, instead, it uses touch keys which are right at the bottom of the display.
The Tecno L9 Plus is available in a wide range of colours – Black Grey and Gold
Tecno L9 Plus Review: Battery
With a massive 5000mAh battery, you would say that the L9 plus could last forever.
Well, after giving the L9 plus a few tryouts we found out that the battery is not just 5000mAh on paper; it definitely lives up to the hype.
The L9 plus was able to last up to 16 hours on heavy usage which included using of various apps, multitasking, gaming and watching movies.
If you are not a heavy phone user, then you should expect the L9 plus to last you up to a whole day without charging.
The L9 plus also comes with a battery saver feature which helps to make your battery last longer, although that means you’d have to stop using certain apps.
The L9 plus is also fast charging.
Tecno L9 Plus Review: Performance
With an Android 7.0 (Nougat) OS, you would say that the L9 plus is living in the past.
The L9 plus comes with a 2GB ROM which makes multi-tasking quite interesting and gives you a lag-free experience which is good news for gamers and heavy phone users.
The L9 plus also comes with a 16GB ROM space, which is expandable to 128GB via a microSD card
Tecno L9 Plus Review: Camera
Although it’s not the best Tecno phone camera out there, we could say that the L9 plus rear and front camera offer great photos which we place above average in quality.
The L9 plus has a 13MP camera with a LED flash which delivers quality pictures if you are taking a pic in an area with a lot of light. We noticed some color distortions in pictures taken in the dark, although these photos were clear.
The camera comes with basic features you would find in most Tecno phones including the Paranoma mode which lets you take wide-range pictures. Other features include HDR mode for clearer photos in low light and beauty features for photo editing.
The L9 plus also has a 5MP camera which also takes clear pictures. Its features are just identical to the rear camera although it has a lower picture quality.
Tecno L9 Plus Review: Sensors
The main sensor on the L9 plus is the fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is mounted on the rear of the L9 plus just underneath the camera. Due to the width of the L9 plus, it could be difficult for some users to reach the fingerprint scanner, but it shouldn’t pose much problem with a little effort.
The fingerprint print scanner is pretty fast and accurate.
Tecno L9 Plus Review: Conclusion
The Tecno L9 plus is pretty similar to the L9 which was also released in 2017, you would say that the L9 is the big brother due to its extended features. Due to these features you would, normally expect the L9 plus to cost more than the L9.
During the year of its release, the L9 plus costs about N50,000 - N60,000 depending on your location and the salesperson. Presently, you can get the L9 plus for a much cheaper amount but we advise you to still follow the price range above.
The Tecno L9 plus looks like a great phone on paper and we can certainly say it is. With a 5000mAh battery (its main feature), a 2GB RAM space and 13MP rear camera you would call this phone a classic phone considering its price.
However, we still had issues with the size and weight of the phone, but it shouldn’t be much of a problem for most phone users.
Nevertheless, the Tecno L9 plus is a great phone if you love massive phones.
